tHE CHALLENGE

Executing an addition in a dense residential neighborhood presented logistical and structural hurdles. The site had tight access points, which made bringing in heavy equipment for excavation especially tricky. At the same time, we had to remain mindful of noise, traffic, and daily disruptions to keep neighbors satisfied throughout the process.

As construction began, we also faced a design challenge: the original architectural plans included over-engineered structural elements, which unnecessarily inflated material costs for the client. The integration of the new addition with the existing home required thoughtful coordination between trades, architecture, and client expectations.

oUR APPROACH

We began with careful planning around site access, coordinating equipment deliveries and excavation schedules to minimize the impact on the neighborhood. Communication with neighbors and a clean, well-managed jobsite helped maintain good relations and avoid disruptions.

When it came to construction, our team collaborated with the architect and client to find cost-effective structural alternatives—redesigning certain elements to achieve the same integrity and performance without the unnecessary expense. We also paid close attention to the transition between old and new, ensuring that the addition not only functioned seamlessly but also looked and felt like part of the original home.
